WOOD BURNING?
Wood burning aka "pyrography" is the art of writing with
fire. I think of it as being some what like pencil drawing,
only it takes ten times as long to get the final product,
and you don't have an eraser. What I use, is a hot tipped
pen (Detail Master IV) which can be changed to make a
smoother tone or shade depending on the surface. Also, the
higher end burners have a temperature nob which allows you
to adjust the tips temperature, this gives you much more
control over the smaller details, and contrast of the
piece. The most common types of wood used by experienced
burners are basswood, beech, birch and my personal
preference maple. Leather is another option as well, its
great for tight and intricate detail, due to the fact your
not dealing with grain of the wood. Hope this gives a
little better idea of what the art of wood burning consists
of. If you have any "burning" questions don't be afraid to
contact me.
